My Essential Multi-Use Oils
Meet the grocery list mandatories. Matching your mask to your outfit (duh!) now feels almost as exciting as getting ready for a weekend at a winery. These are the oils you’ll need write down; with a small investment these babies will go a long way, kinda like a nice red. Bolognaise AND virtual happy hour!
Aboriginal Antidote - Tea Tree
The refreshing fragrance of tea tree essential oil is now synonymous to relaxation for me. Since I’ve ran out of my other fave lavender, tea tree oil has been in my diffuser during every night of quarantine. It’s so relaxing. This oil has also been found to treat acne, dandruff, and can be used as an antiseptic. Essential oils have also been very fun to use in customizing my own scents with the set of 16 I ordered from Art Naturals. The most amazing thing about essential oils is that you can create so many things with them using an empty spray bottle or jar. Air freshener, hand sanitizer, moisturizer, the list goes on and on.
In Love With The Coco - Coconut
One of my favorite memories is Bali right after college. My girls and I sat on the beach while our driver climbed a coconut tree, slashed it open with a small machete, and handed it to us. Imagine sitting on a ledge with your feet dangling over the side with the ocean below literally drinking paradise. Our island escort explained it’s hydrating and antimicrobial properties and I was hooked for life. Pina coladas, coconut water, sign me up! Coconut oil is everything, I mean what can’t you use it for? Some of my favorite uses for this ancient healer are cooking, body oil, and tanning oil. This baby not only effortlessly sautés shrimp for you, but it will leave you feeling incredibly soft and glowing, naturally. Husband material, need I say more?
Long Hair Don’t Care - Castor
My brows have always been a work in progress, and I don’t say that lightly. They’ve been plucked and shaved, everything. Basically, it took me until I was 30 to commit to getting them done professionally. This is when my sweet Indian ladies who threaded my brows at My Perfect Brows recommended castor oil for hair growth. With the eight dollar price tag on it I was skeptical, but gave it a try and was amazed by how well it worked. My brows were growing fuller and were able to be shaped so much better. Castor oil is also safe to use on your lashes and hair. After you get out of the shower massage a tiny bit on your scalp for longer stronger hair. When could there be a better time to grow your brows out than now? I don’t know about you, but when the world finally opens again and we can go back to the salon, I’m going to leave my appointment with natural brows on point like never before!
Moroccan Blossoms - Argan
As much as I love living on an island, one thing I miss immensely is Trader Joes. The quality for the price and those easy frozen dinners for bachelorettes gets me a bit homesick. The thing I ask my friends to bring me from our fave grocery store when they visit the mainland is Organic Argan Oil. Previous to trying this skin smoothing savior, I used Josie Marians Argan Oil which is amazing but about $40 dollars more expensive than the $7 bottle at TJ’s. Use a drop in your foundation or moisturizer every day or finish your nighttime beauty regimen with a few drops. Let’s just say I’ve used this magic oil for about ten years now and it (and good genes) has kept me looking 25 at 33.
Ok self-care sous chef Queens! I want to see you make it fashion with that new mask and a basket full of oils that will help you perfect your recipes and keep glowing. Let’s come out on the other side of this at our most beautiful. You can do it naturally and affordably, because let’s face, it we have no other choice but to bloom where we are with what we have.
